A Certificate of Occupancy will be required before any building is occupied. A Certificate of Occupancy may only be obtained after all final inspections are approved, and an approved operation permit for sewage and water is acquired from the Health Department. Two working days are required to process a Certificate of Occupancy after all approvals are received.

Please review the information below for instructions on how to obtain a residential building permit in Augusta County.
Sub permits (electrical, plumbing, mechanical) are obtained separately by the individual or company doing the work. Please find the sub permit applications along with additional applications under the Printable Permit Applications page.
Please note: In accordance with Section 105.4 Records of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, Augusta County Building Department retains building permit records for 3 years after project completion. It is recommended that applicants retain any and all copies of permits, plans and inspection reports in the event they sell their home and need to respond to home inspector inquiries. Retaining this information is also useful for future additions or remodeling.
