Plastics cannot be recycled at the landfill due to changes in recycling markets.
We will continue to collect glass at the collection sites. Glass is crushed and used as an intermediate cover for the landfill.
Recycling Tips:
- Empty and rinse food particles from all containers
- Do not place items like foil, tin pans, and siding into the aluminum can bin
- To help keep our recycling program efficient and effective, please do not place plastic bags in recycling bins. If recyclables are transported in plastic bags, remove the bags before placing items in the bins. Plastic bags contaminate recycling loads, which can lead to rejection of materials, added strain on recycling staff, and reduced recycling value.
Accepted Recyclable Items
Aluminum cans should be drained.
Metal cans should be empty and clean.
Mixed paper includes white office paper, colored paper, folders, envelopes (no clasps or metal), newspapers, cereal boxes, phone books, junk mail, ads, and slick paper. Paper should be clean and contain no food or oil residues.
Waxed coated materials such as milk cartons, pet food bags, as well as food boxes such as pizza boxes should be placed with general trash.
Corrugated Cardboard- the sturdy cardboard commonly used for shipping and moving boxes. It is made of three layers: a wavy inner layer (called the fluting) sandwiched between two flat outer layers. This structure makes it stronger and thicker than paperboard used for items like cereal or shoe boxes.
Glass should be emptied and rinsed.
Various batteries, smaller electronics, motor oil, antifreeze, scrap metal and appliances can all be recycled. Look for each of these designated areas at the Landfill.
Rechargeable batteries may be recycled at the place they were purchased.
